the Unexpressed Advantage

This is Peachy, and a good way to replace the previous article as the headliner, seeing as how it doesn’t seem to be getting a very enthusiastic response (although I did get some very interesting emails about it, if you want to know more, just ask).

Here’s a little conversation I had with Joash and Wendy. We were out for a late walk around the neighborhood when we came up to the top of a hill next to the fire station. At the bottom of the hill a firetruck, with lights flashing, was parked in the middle of a busy street. There was a girl sitting next to the firetruck, she appeared to be smoking. We stood atop the street staring at the fire truck for a few minutes, in the midst of a serious conversation but occasionally bouncing back into simple chatter.

A fellow student at the college is starting an amazing new non-profit organization aimed at taking Vancouver prostitutes out of the inner city and placing them in Christian homes set up as transition houses. In Vancouver, like many urban areas, the lifestyle surrounding drugs and prostitution can get very ugly at times. Many of the women who find themselves in this situation are under the fear-motivated control of pimps who keep them locked up in the trade. Some are held captive by drug habits, and some of these women are literally held captive in locked rooms unable to leave except in order to go to work. Even if a woman wanted to leave the trade, in many cases she would feel trapped by her environment, unable to escape. If she did escape, there still would be no place to go. It’s a fairly big problem without many good solutions, yet this friend of mine told me the other day of a pretty impressive plan…

I have noticed that God tends to speak to me in themes. Maybe He speaks to you that way as well. What I mean is that as he’s trying to teach me to draw into closer relationship with Him and closer relationship with my spiritual siblings, He often speaks to my mind by placing strings of thought in my head that I ponder and attempt to act on (quite conducive to blog writing, coincedentally).
