Just a tiny point of Clarification.  Yesterday the garfield post was meant to be a happy birthday to Garfield, not me.  I had my birthday in March.  Garfield's birthday is June 19, and for some reason I remember it every year.  Thanks for all the birthday wishes though everyone.  I'll just send them on to next year.

I've noticed recently that, as every good Christian boy should, I have a lot of swear word substitutions that I use; meaning that when I would normally swear I use some other combination of words in the place of an actual swear word.

I don't really have a problem with people who swear – I mean people who swear often and inappropriately are a bit rediculous – but in general swearing doesn't really bother me that much. If you want to drop an occasional F-Bomb to be funny or when you're really mad that's fine.

At some point I just stopped swearing and it wasn't really a moral choice, so much as I didn't really find a need to swear that often. I just really don't like the way it comes out or the reaction it elicits in others. Somehow that resulted in a lot of silly phrases that make me come off as a choir boy sometimes, even though I'm really not much of a choir boy.

Here are some of them…

Good Gravy – expressed irritation or tiredness of the same thing (i.e., my current allergies)
Holy Macaroni – this I say when something catches me off guard
F – used as a substitute for, well, F.
Shiester! – I think this may be a swear word in some other language.
Frak – Battle Star Galactica influence. Genius, they've basically created a whole new swear word that isn't a swear word. I try not to say this too often 'cause I don't want the world to know I'm a sci-fi Junkie.
Jeesh! – Express discontent at the actions of another.
Holy Schnizzle! – no idea where this came from.
Pickin' – see Frak
Blast! – Sh!^

My mom and I have been having a multi-day, multi-email conversation, and as usual in those conversations the topic comes up of fitness and exercise. This somehow let to her asking me the following question:

"Why don't you like Running? Too Jaring?"

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer:

Running for sport, in my opinion, is not a good idea.

It would be like turning yourself upside down, and taking a hammer that weighs exactly as much as you do, and hitting the bottom of your feet with it over and over again.

Why would somebody do that?

I think we should only run for the following reasons:

1. To get to the other side of a basketball court
2. To get to where a football is going to be
3. To escape bears, clowns, and other mortal danger
4. To catch food (although note that fishing allows you to catch food without running)

Have you ever typed the word "fail" into google images? Guaranteed good time. For maybe hours.

I haven't linked to Brant Hansens site in a while, although it is still probably my blogging inspiration (I swear that guy must spend three hours a day blogging, I hope he's getting paid). Anyway right here he tells the funniest joke that he's heard in a while. I agree. It's the funniest joke I've heard in a while. I told my roommate last night and I'm pretty sure he's still laughing.

I'm hesitant to post a favorite anything related to muscic, but her use of the Pet Shop Boys got me remembering the beauty of 80s pop, which led me to downloading all of my pet shop boys onto my ipod (apparently I don't have always on my mind). This reminded me of probably one of my favorite bands growing up, Cause and Effect who had their keyboardist die. I thought they were done but apparently they got a new keyboardist (novel) and have been playing ever since!¹ Cool. I've got some catching up to do.

Anyway, that line of thought helped me realize that I do indeed have a favorite cover, which is a cover of one of my favorite all time songs. It's Frente performing "Bizarre Love Triangle", originally by New Order. This obviously reminded me of how much I loved new order and now I need to go find their CD. Thanks.
