• Gloves

I got my gloves for Christmas this year. I don't think they're doing a very good job. I'm not sure what it is. I like them plenty. They're very stylish and supposedly "weatherproof", whatever that means. Whatever it means, I'm certain it does not mean "these gloves will keep your finger warm when it's -1°C (30°F) outside and the conditions are listed as "moderate freezing fog". I'm kind of a nut when it comes to gloves. I want the perfect pair. I want a pair that is very thin; that allows me to wear them but still manipulate things like the keys in my pocket and maybe eat a burrito or something. I also want them to be warm – very warm; I hate cold fingers. I also want them to be completely wind and waterproof. They should also be fashionable; I should be able to wear them out on the town or up on the mountain. On top of all that, It would be nice if they cost around $30.

I'm not sure if such gloves exist. As a result I usually don't have gloves at all. So I was happy to receive some sweet gloves for Christmas. I really like them, they fit and look nice, but I'm a little confused because they don't really keep my fingers warm. I think the term, "weatherproof" may be a little misleading. I hate cold fingers. On the flip side, I'd hate to think what it would be like to have no gloves.

I'm looking at www.mec.ca and searching for gloves, and it seems that there are different types and thicknesses of gloves that serve different purposes. I may have to head down there.

The gloves worked pretty well on Sunday. Sunday I was speaking with a friend who mentioned to me that even though it was below freezing in Vancouver, the surrounding mountaintops (between 30 and 40 minutes in pretty much every northerly direction) were actually sunny and between 15 and 20 degrees (59°-62° F).

What? It's foggy and freezing here, but I go UP the mountain and it's going to get sunny and spring-like? Yep. Apparently this is due to something called inversion that everyone in Vancouver is aware of but nobody completely understands. Not shocking. I wasn't very keen to understand it either, I basically just wanted to get my freezing body up in that 15° weather as soon as humanly possible.

And so I got in the car with a number of special friends and we headed up to Mount Seymour for a little sunny reflection and playtime in the snow. I tell you the Sun is good. THE SUN IS GOOD! It seems like forever since I've seen it and it was good for the soul.

The really neat thing is how the fog looks over the city. Here's a picture of Vancouver from Cypress Bowl, not where we were standing but we basically got to see the same thing from the mountain.

Here's another, this is probably taken from where we were.

I have a couple more pics I'll share them when I get hold of them. It was awesome.

    Wow,
That is how I feel in Merced sometimes – completely socked in! We also have to go up the mountain to see the sun. Not today though, we are getting some much needed rain!

That fog is so crazy! I have to say I’m glad I’m missing it. It may be cold here but at least I see the sun each and every day.

Those pictures are so cool – and so weird. Thanks for posting them. I do hope you actually get some sun IN the city soon. Thanks also for your other post. I have been introduced to the wonderful world of Google reader and even photos. The internet is a wonderful place.

Yeah, I don’t believe in gloves. Nice idea, but they just don’t work.

I remember having some really nice gloves just as you described, but I haven’t seen them since last winter. Not like I need them since it hit 70F today here in Norcal.
