So it turns out I have less time these days than ever before to do things like, blog. But I felt like if I didn't get an Alanis post up I'd forever regret it like i do missing out on posting about Bruce Springsteen, the greatest big band concert experience of my life…
Yesterday Ryan (who went to the concert with me) asked me when my Alanis Buzz wore off. We went to the concert on tuesday, He asked friday night, and I sat there trying to find an answer…
After a couple of seconds he said, "still hasn't worn off yet huh?"
In truth, no. She's all I've been listening to the last few days.
We went to the grand ole Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver, a old theatre converted into a concert hall, one of the poshest concert destinations in Vancouver. Unfortunately for me, most of the seats in the theatre are too small for my gargantuan legs, so I have to try really hard to score seats in the "dress circle" (front four rows of the balcony) in order to have proper leg room and a good view. They're the best seats in the house, but I'm happy to pay extra for them because at this point in my life, I figure it's worth it to pay extra to get great concert seats and have all of the few shows I go to be really memorable; rather than just go to a bunch of shows of people I kind of like.
I've always wanted to see Alanis live, so you can imagine I was pretty stoked when I found 2nd row dress circle seats only one day before the concert for $20 off the ticket price (the concert was sold out, but somebody wanted to sell their tickets fast). Lucky me and Ryan. I got the best seats in the house for cheap seat prices. Booyah.
In terms of reviewing the concert, all I can say is that it/she was simply stunning. It's a specatcle to behold. Alanis is one of a kind. There's nobody that sounds like her, looks like her, acts like her. In fact, in a platonic way, it's like even if you found an impersonator who could sing the same way, looked kind of similar, and pranced around the stage in a similar fashion, it would still be a dissapointment. As if you were only looking at a poor copy of some truer form that maybe existed in another ethereal world.
That world is where we spent tuesday night, listening to the uncannily unique and special songs from Jagged Little Pill and other Alanis albums. There's nothing quite like it.
Just a side note, the opening act – Alexi Murdoch – stopped in the middle of one of his songs to check his cell phone. He came back to the mic and announced that Obama was the new president of the United States. The crowd errupted into a four-minute thunderous applause. I double-checked with Jane who was watching the election coverage on TV – it was true.
In all it was a spectacular night.
I managed to get some blurry illegal snaps with my ihpone. Nothing to marvel at but proof I was there…
Enjoy.

that light in the upper right-hand corner was some kind of radio death ray we were thinking.

there was some preetty cool visuals in the background.

not sure what the guitarist is doing here.

you can see how cool the theatre is. Really high ceilings. Alanis likes to kick things.

lower left corner.
I’m glad you enjoyed it so much! I won’t remind you of what happened to me when I met Alanis’ band..
Did she walk around all funny the entire time she was performing because when we saw her that was all she did…
