Why Tuesdays are So Much Better than Mondays

Today was one of those days…

... where I made a lot of phone calls and send a lot of emails and everybody either answered, called back, or replied promptly. It's 10:57 and very unusually, I feel like all my business for the day is wrapped up. That doesn't happen very often and to be honest it's quite a nice feeling.

In other news…

Many of you may remember me alluding to the unnerving glares that one receives in vancouver by it's meathead drivers when you tick them off even in the slightest. I made some insight as to why that may be today. I was driving, and I came up to a right turn off of University Blvd and Blanca. I was watching some pedestrians about to cross, so I didn't see the light turn green for me, which left me waiting to turn right at a green light for a few extra seconds. As I saw the green light and realized the pedestrians weren't crossing, I began to proceed. Lo and behold I looked out my left window and a car was right next to me. Apparently the guy behind me got sick of waiting and just desired to go around me. Since two cars don't fit very well into one lane, I stopped cold. He saw that I was moving and then he stopped. And then It happened.

I looked through my window, caught his eyes, and I sent that guy a stone cold, chilling, evil glare the likes of which no Christian man should ever send to another. He returned with an equally heinous gaze and we were on our way. Despite the initial normality of this transaction, it shortly thereafter dawned on me that I had become that which I so despised. And then it occured to me…

...The glare is contagious. Hence I immediately developed the following theory. This whole vancouver traffic glaring thing probably started with one poor, unknowing soul who got cut off in the most despicable manner one day long ago. He or She – without realize what they were beginning – probably just shot a glare to the offensive driver, and unknowingly set in motion what would one day be a whole city of unhappy drivers capable of throwing out the most malevolent post skirmish traffic glances anywhere on the west coast. Traffic in Vancouver isn't even very bad, but now it's the home of "the glare up there," a formidable experience for any visiting motorist, especially those who have American plates.

Well I guess it's all water under the bridge then. My fellow motorists are simply victims – as am I – instinctively responding to the unwitting outworkings of one sad soul many years ago.

Oh what will become of us?

from "the home of the glare,"

Dan.
