Hmm…

Today I noticed on facebook that a few people I know are attending the "Passion World Tour" In Vancouver. I'm usually pretty critical of things like this, I mean it totally confuses me that we have to go see "worship" concerts in large venues like GM place. And it confuses me that people charge money for worship events. It's even more confusing because I like Chris Tomlin and I wouldn't mind going to see him play, but then am I going to a concert or am I going to church? And if I'm going to church, why am I paying? And If I'm paying, why are they also taking an offering?

See how that's all so confusing?

I mean, I like Jesus and everything but when he gets mixed into the world of "christian" industry my "conflicting paradigm sensors" start buzzing like mad.

But before I ranted I went to their web site. And it turns out the tickets are only $20 Canadian dollars, which is like $20 U.S. dollars. Well krikey, $20?!? That's a drop in the bucket, only probably enough to cover operating costs (they are holding it at a 30,000 person arena). Seriously, I'm not being sarcastic, that makes me feel a lot better. If it was, say, $60, the cost of a cheap concert at GM place, you never would have seen the end of this "rant".

So now I think I'll go. It sounds like fun, praising Jesus. I better hurry and tell facebook.

Want free tickets?

Good points about Christian concerts.

We are going to the Music Builds show in September (third day, switchfoot, jars of clay). The tickets for that were UNDER $20!

Please, Brody, don’t tell me you could have gotten us in for free…

I agree with your eventual conclusion here, but why is it that people think Christians should not get paid to do what they are good at? I mean most, if not all of these people are full time musicians, it’s what they do and they shouldn’t have to struggle just because the serve God rather than self.

It’s like pastors, too often we pay them just enough to scrape by (this could be you one day Dan) I think people sacrificing a comparitevely relaxing “normal” job for what is pretty much guaranteed a high stress job should be rewarded here as well as in heaven.

....I just don’t really want to increase my tithe….

Annie, where are you seeing that?
Brody, I think we ALL want free tickets! :)
Dan, I concur. Either it is church/worship or it is concert/entertainment. I shouldn’t have to pay to hang out with Jesus and His bride.

Sleep Train. 9/28

Hey Dan, sorry to let you know that you actually can’t go unless you volunteer. The night is geared toward 18-25 year olds. It’s not as much of a concert as it is a gathering to mobilize the university aged generation to reach the world for Jesus. Hmmm… just had a thought. Since you lead the college group at UChapel you likely could actually accompany those who are attending from your group. That’s how I am going:)

Hey that sounds like a stellar idea!

P.S. I’m pretty sure that brody can get anyone into anything for free..
