Gerber 650 - My friend

Years ago I bought this knife…

... for cutting ropes and the like while I worked as a boat captain for a summer camp on the sacramento river delta. After a couple of years, my friend Scott was trying to flick it open and in doing so, he threw it into the 30' deep water.

We promptly drove to Wal-Mart and he bought me another one. I didn't charge him for gas.

I love this knife. In all my years I've never seen anybody bust out a camping knife that was more burly or intimidating. Unless of course you consider the latest version" which apparently has some sort of hook attached at the end. Not sure what that's for.

It's a great knife. I've used it for all kinds of things but mostly for cutting cheese, cutting dry salami, and intimidating bears (also occasionally chopping down trees. It's real good for all things. Oh yeah, I've also cut a lot of rope with it.

But the reason I'm writing about it is that I brought it into work today to… ...cut up some cheese. And without realizing it I was just sitting here at my desk, momentarily zoning out. In my hand was the Gerber 650, fully open and being waved by me randomly throughout the air in front of my desk.

I wondered how my co-workers would of reacted had they seen it. That could have been a bit of a disaster. Anyway I love this knife.

Attention Jeff, Nevs & anyone else this applies too….immediately change all stories from “when I was a driver” to “when I worked as a boat captain.” I’ve been selling myself short for over 10 years!
