Coconut

Today I had to go to a tailor to drop off a Suit I need altered. Going to a tailor was one of those things that I always looked forward to when I was a kid. I loved the idea of wearing a suit every day, having a personal tailor and having things altered. Dropping off the dry-cleaning every week. You know, city stuff.
Being a suburb boy and then whatever Chico is (i guess a university town / farming community?) it just really seemed like it would be cool. I often pictured myself walking to work every day in a number of nice suits.
Strange how I now live in one of those big cities and I basically wear a suit once or twice a year. Nobody wears suits anymore, not even the lawyers. Well, some of the lawyers. I guess a few of the younger professionals still wear suits, but just the ones who work right downtown and really want to get promotions badly (is that a hanging modifier?).
But even the director in my office doesn't wear a suit. And I certainly don't need to. Heck, I wear flip-flops to work.
So I thought it would be cool to drop a suit at the tailor. I'm going to wear it at a wedding I'm speaking in this weekend.
Strange how it wasn't cool. Also it wasn't as cheap as I thought. I was going in there thinking, "hmm, probably 3 small alterations, probably $5 each, total $15."
Nope. 3 small alterations – $65
I thought about haggling with the tailor, but he didn't really speak english and I felt kind of bad haggling that sort of thing anyway.
To top it all off, the place smelled like Coconut. I'm not sure if I like that, i'm really hoping that my suit won't smell like Coconut when I pick it up friday.
Strange.

tailors are cool, but expensive – like you said. i don’t even like coconut. we have a bathroom deodorizer that we spray after deucing and it smells like coconut. sometimes the smell of pooh is better than junk.
