The Great Global Warming Conspiracy (GGWC)
The Great Global Warming Conspiracy (GGWC)
Jeff and I have been arguing a bit about the whole Global Warming issue. It's a pretty big deal I think, when all of a sudden some former nearly president guy gets up on the national stage and tells you, "Hey our planet is dying!"
If the earth's core had stopped rotating or maybe a giant asteroid were heading our way I think we'd be in great shape. After all we could just call Hilary Swank or Bruce Willis and they'd come save us with their movie star prowess.
Unfortunately real life isn't as fun or easy as the movies, and we don't have 50 Billion dollar space ships that can tunnel through the earth (is that an oxymoron?)
Instead we face the possibility of a slow killer, or perhaps the reality that we're all being duped. From what I can see there's evidence of both. This woman that Audrey describes on her blog makes a heck of a point. It's hard to believe in something making the earth hotter when you get cold sometimes. In fact, as I look outside my window and see the rain coming down my skepticism is fueled a little.
Then again, Pat Robertson Realized it was hot one day and he became a "convert" to Global Warming. I'm not sure how that affects his Christianity, or whether he still wants to Assassinate Hugo Chávez.
So, the temperature of your current environment can be really helpful in determining whether global warming is real.
To be honest, I never really knew that this was such a big controversy until Jeff pointed it out. And I can see that great thinkers like Michael Medved,1 Rush Limbaugh, and apparently even David Bellamy all have good reasons why the whole idea is just a big scam to coerce the American Public into conforming the will of its evil environmentalist overlords.
And I think that becomes most obvious when you stop to take a look at the type of thing that Global Warming advocates are encouraging us to do. On the surface they seem harmlessly inconvenient, but sometimes more is going on. Here are just a few, from Al Gore's website.2
- Replace a regular incandescent light bulb with a compact fluorescent light bulb (cfl)
What they Say it Does: Saves Energy
What's Really going on: By slowly convincing everyone to buy dimmer, smaller light bulbs, the conspirators are able to be more sneaky; sneaking around at night to do all sorts of mischief and what not.
- Move your thermostat down 2° in winter and up 2° in summer
What they Say it Does: Stops lots of carbon from going into the atmosphere.
What's Really going on: Torture. In the winter they want to convince you that it's cold. Then it will feel hotter in the summer and with the 2° increase on your thermostat it will feel even more hotter and then you'll be convinced that global warming is real.
- Use less hot water
What they Say it Does: Uses less carbon.
What's Really going on: Sleep deprivation. Obviously my roommate would be happy if I adhered to this particular global warming initiative, but in reality it's designed to rob us of the precious few minutes of sleep we have when we take a shower (I'm talking about the first few minutes). Using cold water or using less water will wake us instantly, leaving us in a cognitive blur and susceptible to malicious influence.
- Turn off electronic devices you’re not using
What they Say it Does: Saves energy.
What's Really going on: Electronic devices disturb radio waves used for eavesdropping and other nefarious activities going on in the black van parked in front of your mailbox right now. You're probably safer wearing a tin helmet.
- Plant a tree
What they Say it Does: Absorbs Carbon
What's Really going on: Plant a Tree? PLANT A TREE? PLANT A FRIGGIN' TREE? COME ON MAN!
- Eat less meat
What they Say it Does: I'm not even going to comment on this one. Obviously I'm not going to "eat less meat."
So as you can see, the Global Warmists are asking for a lot, and not everybody is convinced that they aren't asking out of questionable motives. I'm not sure what to believe. A lot of scientists seem to have a consensus on this issue, but they also have a consensus on the evolution issue, and I don't believe in that. I also don't believe in Darwin – or scientists for that matter.

I know some of this is joking around and some is serious and in all honesty I am not nearly as well educated on this matter as I would like to be, or rather, as I should be. But I guess all in all I do see that our planet is dying and I do see that things can be done about it. But only WE as people can make those changes. and they do include the above statements you made and so much more. A friend of mine the other day said “how is one lousy person like me going to ‘change the world’ by recycling and using less energy, etc?”. And it is those thoughts that will prevent us from “changing the world”, whereas if we all thought the opposite, then we would be sitting pretty. Or at least prettier. But no ONE person thinks that their lifestyle is affecting the world when in actuality it is your life + my life + his life + her life and so on = dying earth. At the rate we are living, it would take over 3 earths to accommodate us. In fifty years…we are screwed!
