I Give Up on American Idol

So I'm here watching the most recent episode of idol and I thought I'd make my pick before I bounced into the website to find out who got voted off.

But to be honest, I've got no idea. I was gonna go with Sanjaya, 'cause I thought it was time, but his performance tonight combined with the freaky 10 year old pretty much guaranteed that he's going on. He might not be the greatest in our opinion, but if teenage girls like him, who are we to argue? "America" doesn't just equal the 18-34 year olds, and if barbie doll owning girls need to vote for Sanjaya, then I suppose he should stay. The world needs Hanson, New Kids on the Block, and the Backstreet boys, even if I don't really like them that much.

So I just saw Gina, and she could potentially go, her vocals weren't great, but she was. I think she's safe. None of the other singers seem to be in big trouble, even though Simon didn't like Phil Stacey; I thought he was great. All that's left is Chris Sligh and Melinda and we know that they're staying.

So, on a whim, I pick Stephanie. Why not? It will sync with my diva theory and there's nobody else to vote off. – dan

p.s. Or maybe it WILL be Phil. I don't know.

Ok. Now I've seen Melinda's performance. Wow.

Wow.

As a Christian, how can you say anything but wow? I'm feeling a pretty strong urge to jump the ship from blake and put my two cents in for Melinda as the idol favorite. Maybe I'd be stupid not to.

Ok, let's see who got voted off.

Yayy, looks like stephanie went home. Hooray; I called it yo. But Chris R in the bottom 2? That's not in my prognostications.

I was happy to see Stephanie go. Not because she was bad, but because Chris R. is my favorite. Not because I think he’s the best singer, but because he is cute. Not because I think he looks like JT – it’s those eyes… Hey, it really ISN’T just a singing competition – let’s be honest!

Melinda is the best, hands down, and deserves to win this whole thing.

I wonder if they really present the viewers with accurate results in terms of things like “who is in the bottom two.” It’s a little suspect if you ask me since they don’t give us the actual numbers. I think there’s a website out there somewhere where you can get a good feel for how people voted, but I don’t know what it is. This whole thing is so fascinating. They should do a special on 10 different families and how they respond to the show and include their voting. A reality show behind a reality show. Hurrah. Get all kinds of different families, like wealthy suburbanites and nascar fans and even have a homeless guy watch it.

Why is Sanjaya still there? His last performance was very unpleasant to my ears. But i honestly don’t get what all the hooplah over Chris R. is. He can leave anytime and i won’t miss him. I’d rather listen to the real Justin. (but Dan knows my thoughts on Justin, and that’s a whole other conversation.) Blake on the other hand…might be my fav (other than the fact that Melinda rocks and there’s pretty much no competition when you get right down to it.) I like Jordin too, might be emerging as my favorite girl. I thought she did awesome the other night.

Jordin Sings like the girl in the Disney Movies. If she hadna showed up this whole competition would be way less fun.

My understaning is that there is a HUGE underground push to have the worst singer end up being the winner. Howard Stern has been pushing his audiences to vote for Sanjaya specifically and a website called http://www.votefortheworst.com is doing just the same. The top 10 idols tour every summer – I can’t believe Sanjaya made the tour!
