I need a New Bed

I need a new Bed

This is a major problem. And the road to here has been a long one.

Basically the last few years of my life have involved sub-par sleeping arrangements.. My Junior year of college I slept on a pretty good futon, I think that was maybe the best, since then its been all downhill.

For 3 years at the end of college and after I slept on the floor on a therm-a-rest. I did this because I saw my roommate Joey doing it and it seemed easier than carting around a bed. Then somehow I ended up on a couch for a while with the occasional sleeping on a single mattress on the floor. This is, for some, the post college bachelor life.

After the post college bachelor life, I moved to Portland. I didn't have a bed, but my roommate's mom offered me a super single, which was about the longest bed I'd ever slept on. My feet still hung off the edge though, I'm pretty sure at this point I'll be doing that for the rest of my life, it's normal sleep posture for me.

That bed was pretty uncomfortable. I took it to vancouver with me and after a while was kind of hating it. On a Christmas visit I noticed my mom had a pretty cool queen sized inflatable mattress in her guest room. I slept on it one night and it was actually pretty comfortable. I mentioned it to her and she told me to take it up north.

So I figured, "well, it's better than what I've got going now." I took it north and slept on a giant air bubble for a few months. Ok, actually a year. This was a love/hate relationship, but mostly hate. The mattress at times was fairly comfortable, but it lost air by morning time, and if you've ever slept on an air mattress, you know they make a ton of noise and easily wake up a light sleeper.

I'd probably still be sleeping on that mattress now, except for about two weeks ago, I put my knee on the foot of the bed when climbing in, and

pop. yeah. pop.

And I found that fairly humorous, so I just laid on the bed while it deflated (it was about 3 feet tall, so there was a bit of deflating to do).

At this point I was lying on the floor. Now that's progress.

Ironically, Wendy my roommate had an air mattress that she used to sleep on before she bought her bed (which she refers to as "magic bed"). So, in a move of geniune brilliance, I set that air mattress up in my room. It got a hole in it in 3 days.

I duct taped the hole.

It worked for one night. Then it didn't work. I woke up in the morning to the sound of air hissing out next to my ear. At least I made it through the night, but I'm telling you that it was the final straw.

I immediately got online and started searching for used beds.

That was a few days ago, and now i'm in the midst of this mad bed search and i'm sending out like 10 or 20 emails a day and trying to figure out transportation and all that. Plus it's somewhat of a bust because you can't buy anything until you go out and test it…

...and you have to buy something good, because if you buy a crappy mattress you might as well just sleep on the floor. Which, ironically, is where i've been sleeping the last couple of days because of freqent and repeated crappy mattress use.

Anyway. I need a new Bed. And Soon.

The Funny thing about this is I wrote this blog to be humorous / rant. I’ve gotten like 3 offers of beds that people have come up with so far. How Rad is that?
